[It's a bit tricky, delivering a specific gift to just one of the guardians since they all live together. However, this particular present is easy to tell who it's for. Sitting in front of the apartment door is a bright red present with "Father Christmas" written on it. Inside the gift are several things. Santa cookies, a stuffed reindeer and a fur lined coat. Attached to the present itself is atag.]
[Alice receives a video message a few hours after North both wakes up and has had time to just stare at the present in wonder. Children do not leave gifts for Santa. It's the other way around! Still though, North is thrilled. He has already munched on the cookies and tried out the fur lined coat in private. It's not normally his style but it looks very festive and even ceremonial. Can't hurt to try. When the video opens however, North is wearing his normal outfit and a large smile.]
Haha! Thank you for the gift young Alice! It was very thoughtful! Perhaps I will show you how I look in coat, yes?
[Many people gave Jack presents, and now he feels bad. He thought that helping North with his job got that covered... but nope. It looks like it's his turn to go shopping.
A couple of days after the festival, North will find a package floating towards him in the middle of his workshop. It's a wooden box with some carving tools in it. There's also a card written with terrible handwriting that says "Merry Christmas", signed by... a snowflake.]
[For someone who claimed Santa doesn't get presents, the man is certainly acting like one of his younger believers as he sees the gift. North's eyes widen as the package floats towards him. He knows who it's from. There's only one person right now who has both access to his workshop and the ability to move objects. Ha! He told Jack he didn't need to get anything.
Apparently, that doesn't stop North from giving a beaming smile and wiggling his fingers in anticipation though. North's own eyes light up. When the package floats near enough, he snatches it out of the air instead of waiting for it to be put down. Very convincing to the "no present rule," huh?
The craftsmanship on the box is done well. The edges and markings along the side looked quite pleasing to North's eyes. He has also long since gotten used to seeing the humans' version of himself (though where these people got some of their ideas he never knew. He did not look that soft and round!!). Representation aside, the intent of the picture is heartwarming and he loves it - Santa getting ready to deliver his presents to the good children. Finally, North opens the box and...begins to look like you've just given him the Holy Grail. Carving tools. Carving tools! Just what he needed! The majority of his tools from the festival had been more like rentals from the Natives once it had been announced - returned after he no longer needed them as badly. No though, he could work to his heart's content!
North's smile turns to a calmer more pleased one. A great gift Jack. And he will tell it to your face if he sees you.
A gift though. That reminds him...
A few hours after the present is given, Jack may be greeted by...a snowball heading straight to the head. (Happy about the leftover snow?) Once enough time has passed to successfully dodge or get struck by it, a small box is slid over in Jack's direction. This time the wrapping paper looks like a winter wonderland tied with a blue ribbon. On the box, a tag (different from last time) states "To Jack. I seemed to have already missed one." Like last time, a small arrow pointed up is left on the corner of the tag.
Inside the present, another part of the matryoshka doll lies inside wrapped in white paper. It is smaller than the some of the other parts so it's meant to go under some sections. Oddly, the previously "perfect" fit of the dolls seems to have been altered JUST enough to allow this one. A card lies inside as well with the word "Devoted" written in silver. The nesting doll is holding two children. One is obviously Jamie (Jack's first believer) but the other? The other is a painted image of a girl who now exists only in memory and Jack's picture.
[Yes, he told Jack. But he didn't expect him to listen, did he? Now that's silly.
Jack would like to say that North totally looks soft and round (though Sandy beats him in that category), but he doesn't show himself. He spies from afar to check that North likes his present, then leaves very proud of himself. He'd love to tease the man about it, but he knows he'll get another rant about Santa not supposed to receive gifts and all that jazz.
That smugness leaves a moment after he dodges that snowball days later. The box makes him suspicious and this time he does check the tag first. Just as he imagined. Shaking his head and already thinking of a way to get back at North, he opens the present, and what he finds there makes him freeze on the spot.
This doll also has an effect on him, but definitely worse than the others. His capacity to protect children is his biggest weakness here in Asgard, so this one hits him hard, especially after having Alice and Hibiki died already.
Jack doesn't go to North this time, he needs time alone with his thoughts. So he takes the new doll and all its sisters with him to the roof.
[This message comes in after the fight for Alfheim is done and the conquering heroes have returned. Samantha managed to figure out through a little checking of those departing that the one Jack mentioned had gone with everyone else to the conflict.
Bonus. It saved her the trouble of deciding if she wanted to actually talk with him until after he got back. When he did, she finally settled on 'yes,' though god help her if she had any clue what she wanted to actually say.
So, why not start on the most imaginative introduction ever imagined in the history of imagining.]
[North has remained locked up in his workshop immediately after the battle was finished. Part of the reason was to let the events of the last few days sink in and try to figure out where to go from here. Another reason was to give his body some form of rest before jumping into something else. There's a reason almost all of North's messages had been sent only in audio.
Needless to say, North was surprised when he received the message. A welcome one but still a surprise. When North replies, his voice sounds a little tired despite his best effort but, at the very least, welcoming enough - especially since this is a topic that North can actually deal with right now.]
Ah, yes. Santa Claus! That is one of my names back home. You may also call me North if you wish to however. I do not believe we have met Ms.-?
[She kept the 'funny. you don't sound like a Turkish fisherman' comment out of her voice for the moment, her raspy voice going on. She was struggling to deal with this one. Jack Frost and the Sandman were one thing. The tubby man in the red suit came with certain religious assumptions, problematic ones for her.
[Turning gray is extremely disorienting. Sandy does not recommend it.
He also doesn't recommend isolating oneself after a traumatic incident like the Alfheim battle, which is why when he finds out that North has been locked up in his workshop for the past four days, he gets very concerned.
It's really no problem to get in through a window. After all, he can bend trees to his will. He doesn't really even have to climb.
He slips in through a window, looking around the workshop briefly before hunting down the general area he felt North would likely be.
And, just to make sure North didn't overlook him (again), he knocked on the walls of the workshop as he moved, making the noise that his feet did not.]
[The workshop is frankly a mess and not in the cheerful way it had been before Alfheim. Like before, papers were scattered - thrown haphazardly in one direction or another. Unlike before, some of those pages had landed on the floor as if it has been tossed down there. The room had a collection of completed and unfinished toys. The unfinished ones however far outnumber the completed projects and lay untouched throughout the room. As if their creator had simply given up and moved on to the next one without looking back.
All in all, this did not give the impression of someone with a clear mind.
North himself was sitting at his desk with his back turned towards the door. Pages were laying in front of the man and his hands were fiddling with a medium-sized spherical object. At the noise however, North jumped. His hand immediately grabbed the grip of his one of his swords lying not to far away from North's chair. He turned, half-wondering who was sneaking up on him--
- And saw Sandy instead. Sandy, who he had not seen since his the battle. (Though he hadn't really seen any of the other Guardians since then).]
[Yep, it's him. He's not sure if you're quite you, though, North.
Sandy gives a small, wan smile and waves before the smile falls away and he casually walks up to North, not bothering for an invitation or any sign of welcome. He reaches up and gently touches North's arm, urging him to lower it so he can see what he's working on.
Sandy's worried. Sandy's worried about North, and he's not planning on leaving until at least some of that worry is alleviated.]
[ it's been a couple of days since the fight ended, so Rachel's making her rounds. she still sounds really tired, but, it's mostly just that she's been too lazy to get out of bed and get moving again. does it still count as being tired if you just haven't let yourself fully wake up? sure. ]
Hola, Padre de Navidad! [ eeeheheh. ] I should probably stop trying to speak Spanish when I don't really know Spanish, shouldn't I? Consider yourself checked-in-on, sir. Just calling to see how you're doing.
[North takes a moment to be slightly thankful the message was in audio since he wasn't fully up himself to speak to anyone face to face. North flicked on the audio himself and took a moment to respond.
North chuckles. He sounds a little weary still but hearing the young lady's cheerfulness is a relief after North's own restlessness.]
Haha. It was nice try. Yes, yes. I am doing...better at moment. [Santa shouldn't lie North.] You are the young lady from before, yes?
Yep, that's me. Well, I'm sure you talk to a lot of people, but. I'm Rachel, the one with crazy red hair and delusions of decoration grandeur. [ and she sounds proud of the fact, too. ]
[In honor of the Earth holiday centering on love, Freya sends out a little gift around this time.
A small box containing a piece of chocolate will appear on your pillow during the day. When consumed, the chocolate’s magic will lift your mood for a short period of time. It’s accompanied by a note.]
Where love might bring about sorrow, it also welcomes joy.
[ In honour of the god centering on love being a giant frilly prissypants, Loki sends his own little gift just a few hours after hers.
His box of chocolate will look, smell, and taste exactly like Freya's did, appearing right next to where Freya's was or is if you haven't picked it up yet. The only difference between the two is that Loki's won't lift your mood; it'll give you loud and embarrassing flatulence for the next three hours.
It's also accompanied by a note. ]
Where joy might bring about yearning, it also welcomes wonder.
[By the time she comes to, she somehow has an inkling feeling that she should let North know something. Something is entirely unclear, since Alice only remembers a fraction of it and not to mention her lack of coherency.]
[Alice has already been knocked out cold. She's not even sure how she got back up or why she's been wandering around Asgard with no particular destination in mind. It happens every time Alice blacks out, so this time, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise.
Although it would be a first time Alice would be wandering around like this in Asgard. She's not completely in pain -- no, it doesn't register quiet yet. She stops from wherever she's been wandering. She rubs her eyes as if she had just woke up from a nap. It's sort of true. At last, Alice clutches her shoulder, blooming red underneath her sleeve. Yep, that hurt, but she'll say it was worth it.]
Sandy staggers into the flat late at night, newly colored, and he just glances around the dark living room owlishly. Everything feels a little unreal, like it'll be ripped away at any moment.
He settles on his couch, still blinking, then starts waving his hands, reacquainting himself with his powers. Vines and flowers and fruits and vegetables start climbing from the various potted plants dotting the living room, spreading along the walls, the ceiling, the door, and it keeps moving, shifting. Shrinking, growing, producing, shriveling, living and dying.
As he starts re-connecting himself to his power, he might be making a noticeable amount of noise. Not so much that it would wake up sleepers, but definitely enough to be heard by someone awake.]
[Fortunately (or unfortunately considering the Sandman’s occupation back home), North was not asleep. He hasn’t fully kept himself on a stable sleeping schedule since regaining his focus long ago – sometimes distracting himself with one project or another instead of going to bed. He was already at his desk working away when he heard the clatter below. Assuming it was Bunny or Jack or Jamie or even Alice paying a visit, North rose from his seat only-
Only to notice one of the potted plants in his room had begun to move. Sandy.
North could not have run down those steps faster. Moving at top speed to the living room, he opened the door and finally saw the image he had been hoping to see for such days.]
Master North? Forgive the lateness of this message. Alice told me she had been staying with you and I did not want to cause concern. She is currently asleep here and I thought it best to let her rest.
